Lil Nas X Website Re-Model

Our brief was to create a website for Lil Nas X or Radiohead as these are the artists we use for ur music video section of the specification. I chose to promote Lil Gas X's new videos as his bold, distinctive visual style and strong brand identity make him ideal for eye-catching, contemporary website aimed at a younger audience.

This practice helps me in the future by developing key digital and creative skills that are relevant in modern media industries. By designing this website, I am learning how to construct a clear brand identity and engage a target audience through layout, colour and content, something I can translate into creating my own website for my magazine as part of my NEA.

NEA Audience Research

 Audience Research

The target audience for my health and wellness magazine is '16-25 year olds' as stated in the OCR brief, primarily from a middle to upper socio-economic background. This demographic is typical highly engaged with digital media and values both aesthetic appeal and meaningful content.

In terms of the demographic, my audience is likely to be students or young adults/ professionals with disposable income to spend on lifestyle products such as skincare, wellness items and a gym membership. They are likely to be socially aware and interested in their self-improvement. It is likely this audience values:

  • Health and wellbeing (physical and mental)
  • Social media trends (fitness influencers and wellness routines)
  • Personal identity and self-expression
  • Aesthetic appeal of 'perfect' lifestyle (clean eating, mindfulness and a huge gym and fitness culture)
This demographic engages heavily with platforms such as Instagram, TikTok and YouTube (social media) where health trends are promoted through influencers. This means my magazine must be visually appealing and 'shareable' to promote a lifestyle. To relate to the brief, I will ensure my magazine:
  • Use modern, clean design
  • Includes topics like mental health, fitness, nutrition and lifestyle
  • Uses inclusive representation to reflect a diverse audience
To better understand my target audience, I will conduct a market research survey

YSL PERFUME BEAUTY ADVERT

For this advertisement poster task, I created a high-end advert for the YSL Libre perfume using Photoshop. My aim was to replicate the brand image of luxury and sophistication. I used my own photograph of my perfume bottle hence the half full but this also creates a sense of movement and use as people love the product so much. I placed it in the centre of the advert for it to act as the main focus and dominant signifier. The gold accents of the bottle and the signature YSL logo helped connotate premium quality.

I selected a marble background to reinforce themes of elegance and timelessness which are typical symbolic codes within luxury branding. Typography was chosen to mirror the brands minimalist but bold aesthetic using clean sans-serif font to maintain brand recognition. I also incorporated conventional anchorage text such as the perfume name LIBRE and the tagline reinforcing 'freedom' which aligns the products narrative in real campaigns suggesting luxury lifestyle associated with those who buy the perfume.

Throughout the editing process, I adjusted lighting, contrast and saturation to enhance the product's visual appeal and created an aspirational look. Overall, the advert uses visual codes, iconic brand and persuasive conventions to construct a sense of luxury and desirability which aligns with YSL's existing brand identity.

Southend High School for Girls Advertisement Poster

With creating my school poster advert for Southend High School for Girls, I used photoshop to edit images and put them into my desired composition so that the central student is the key focal point symbolising aspiration and engagement with learning. The large pink folder acts as a visual metaphor for 'turning pages' and 'shaping futures' reinforcing the slogan that I positioned to create a sense of movement and progression. I incorporated the school's rest and branding colours of the iconic green to maintain a visual identity ensuring the poster is recognisable for the school. The clean serif font was chosen for its academic connotations enhancing the professional tone of the advert. I chose to contrast the green colour of the blazer with the same pink as the folder by using tools in Photoshop to pinpoint the exact colour. Overall, I think my advert works well to represent the school as aspirational and focused on the future while also being eye-catching.
